The Yerwood Center

As the Executive Director of the Yerwood Center, a community center focused on helping children from all walks of life succeed in anything they set their mind to doing, Eugene Campbell is always grateful for any help he gets. All the better, when that help comes from a neighboring business with a sincere desire to do good in their own community.
“The people at the First County Bank Foundation could have very easily just handed us a check and went on their way,” says Campbell, who works with the First County Bank branch on Prospect Street. “But instead, Katherine Harris came with a check and THEN offered to help in all kinds of other ways. It really was a different approach than we were used to.”
Along with the financial support, First County Bank offered to start “The Investors Club” and work with 4th and 5th graders to help them open and understand saving accounts. “The Foundation not only helped the kids open the accounts, but they also took the time to do workshops for their new depositors on the importance of savings and how to save for future goals.” “First County Bank isn’t just a bank we work with,” says Campbell. “It’s a partner in our vision.”
Investing in the future is about more than money. It’s about people.
First County Bank believes that by building a strong community, we help to build a stronger banking environment for the people that live and work here. Not to mention the businesses that also call our community home.
So while we take great pride in our ability to help worthy causes with much needed, and deserved, grants…it’s our ability to take it beyond financial support that makes us feel we have truly helped. Getting involved. Dedicating time as well as treasure.
The First County Bank Foundation is honored to be able to play a part in the work done by foundations and organizations across Fairfield County which are working to make all our lives better. And we are humbled by the dedication and sacrifice of the selfless citizens that work with them.
